How it works
Simple for participants, rigorous for managers
Participants rank a short list on their phone. Managers set the rules once and get results they can explain line by line.
For managers
Six steps from setup to sign-off
- 1
Create a poll
Name it, add the options and how many places each has. For rotations, choose several placements per person and add time blocks, required specialties, groups and packages.
- 2
Decide who goes first
Give people priority scores (for example from training scores or seniority), import them from a spreadsheet, or treat everyone equally. Ties are broken by a recorded random draw, or by earliest submission if you choose that up front.
- 3
Invite participants
Polls are invite-only. Add a list of names and emails so each person gets their own personal link, or send a join link to the people you're inviting. Prefera checks the poll can meet every rule before it opens.
- 4
Run the allocation
When ranking closes, run it. The options and tie-break rule are locked once the poll opens, and each run records its settings and random seed, so the result can always be checked.
- 5
Review, then release
You see the results first. Check them, then release. Participants are told their placement, the reason for it, and who to contact with questions.
- 6
Keep the record
Download the run report (PDF and CSV), a personal report for anyone, and a verification file an auditor can re-run. Every manager action is logged.
For participants
Rank honestly. That's the whole strategy.
People open their link, put their choices in order and submit. No account, no password, no guessing what others will do.
- Ranking the way you really feel is always your best move. Putting a popular option first never costs you a safer one further down.
- Submitting early or late makes no difference (unless the organiser chose earliest submission as the tie-break, which they must say up front).
- You get a reason, not just a result. If you missed a higher choice, you'll see why, and you can download your own report.
Several placements
Rotations with rules
For training schemes where each person does several placements across the year.
Time blocks and vacancies
Set the blocks (for example four 3-month blocks) and how many places each specialty has in each block.
Required specialties
Everyone is guaranteed the specialties they must do. People rank only what they have a say in.
Groups and packages
“At least two of these five” groups, ranked in their own list and secured first, or ready-made packages to rank whole.
